When my co-writer, Christen Cooper and I got together for our writing session last May, we were a few months into Covid. Like everybody else, we were worried about how this would impact the world and how we were going to survive with everything shutting down.

Well, the more we started talking, the more we started to form an idea around what we were talking about. Not sure what exactly what Christen was saying at the exact moment, but she followed it by saying "That's what happy is to me". I got excited and said "let's write that!"

With my "Showgirl" series, this is single number 2 and I love how well it is being received! People are texting me with their favorite lines! How blessed am I? What is your favorite line?

As we move forward with the "Showgirl" Series, you will come to see why I named it as such. My whole life I was heavily influenced by all kinds of genres, so I really wanted to express my appreciation and my development of my own personal sound. I've never been able to truly do such a thing as an artist. We are always put into boxes. I believe we no longer have to be, at least I don't want to be!

With "Happy to me" I am expressing my love of Disco, with a disco backbeat, and this lovely woman was the reason!

One of my fondest memories as a child was when my dad would put on a Donna Summer album- the Live album, and we would dance to her. It was so funny watching him dance, it still cracks me up to even think about it!

I actually have the "Bad Girls" vinyl record and I was listening to it last week! This purse I purchased in Portland Oregon from a vendor who made one of a kind purses. I saw it and had to have it!

I look forward to showing you more of me as the year goes on! Please follow the "Showgirl" series on my website! It has all streaming links, the lyrics, a download option off my website ( I get the most of the $1.29 versus the mere pennies from streaming). Also press releases and interviews! Oh, and please don't forget to share! Tell all your friends! Help me and my music get out there!

At least that is how I portrayed it. I was in bands and singing competitions and I had a variety of great music to choose from. Shania, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis , Lori Morgan, Reba, and of course there was Garth, King George, and Clay walker. The list goes on and on.

The more I was singing great country music, the more I started to study and decide to try to write. My first song I wrote was in 1996. "Go Where Nowhere Begins". Yep, and for those who have been wth me since the beginning, they have that song stashed away in a box somewhere, from my first CD...

Now that I am done walking down memory lane, let's talk about one of my favorite things about writing. I enjoy writing by myself, but I really enjoy it when I find a co-writer who I click with. One of those writers is my dear friend Dave Quirk. We met back in 2015 at a writers retreat in Nashville, thanks to Sheree Spoltore, with Global Songwriters Connection. We instantly became friends and since then, we have written many songs together. In fact, I might want to double check my dates because it seems like it's been way longer than just a mere 5 years.

I guess when you have a friend like Dave and you write great songs together, time is irrelevant.

The reason I am bringing up Dave is because on May 20th, I am having a virtual concert via zoom that will feature some songs Dave and I have written together. So if you are a fan of our song "One Less Regret", or "I'll Wait", then you are in for a treat!

This can be a tough time for many.

I had a very verbal and physically abusive step mother and a biological mother who wasn't in the picture.

But the Lord blessed me with Marilyn.

She quickly turned into a surrogate mother and did so much to get me through my teenage and young adult life.

But really, that is an understatement.

She was so much more.

She and I met when I was 16 years old working at a grocery store. She was working there too, but she was 54.

We filled a void for each other, and she quickly became my surrogate mother, the only true mother I've ever known.

April 26 marks the anniversary of her passing, and with Mother's Day coming up I can't help think about my Marylin.

This is me in my wedding dress we made together.

She didn't cook and bake much but she sewed a lot of stage clothes for me and blankets for my babies.

Here are some photos of Marilyn's handy work.

She was one of a kind, and I am lucky to have known her.

As a motherless child, I know the pain of not living a good relationship with your mom.

If this sounds like you, just know you are not alone.

Marylin made my daughter's Christening gown and bonnet.

Here is a stage costume she made for me.
